You might be waiting to see who is the next Leona Lewis or Alexandra Burke on the X Factor, or who will triumph as king or queen of the dance floor on Strictly Come Dancing; but the award that all the stars are desperate to get their hands on are the much acclaimed British Sausage Week Banger Awards!
Now in their 12th year, some of
Britain’s greatest sausage lovers
were recognised today when the British Sausage Appreciation Society unveiled its
list of Celebrity Banger Award Winners in celebration of this years’ British
Sausage Week, which runs from the 2nd to 8th November
2009.
Selected
in recognition of their ‘outstanding service to the sausage’, household names
that will be receiving the endearing golden award include: Holly Willoughby, the new princess of
daytime TV and host of the Xtra Factor; Alan Titchmarsh, a long time supporter
of British pig farmers; model and actress Liz Hurley, a sausage maker herself;
and Dale Winton, a lifelong sausage
fan and former face of British Sausage Week.
The Banger Awards were
created by the British Sausage Appreciation Society to honour and recognise
Britain’s biggest sausage
lovers. Past recipients of these
unique Awards include Jonathan Ross,
Phil Tufnell, Phil Vickery, Richard and Judy, Al Murray, Chris Evans and Jimmy Doherty. In 2007 Sir Terry Wogan received the first
Lifetime Achievement Award for his devotion to the British Sausage and lifetime
membership to the British Sausage Appreciation Society.
Everyone
knows there is something a little bit magical about sausages. This year the British Sausage
Appreciation Society will aim to uncover the illusion and reveal what makes a
really good sausage. Butchers from
across the country have entered a national competition and Paul Daniels and
Debbie McGee are travelling the country from Monday 2nd November tasting a
plethora of the best sizzlers in the country to crown the magical ones in each
region. Regional winners will be
placed on the official British Sausage Week Map and receive a much sort after
Banger Award, plus a donation to a local charity of their
choice.
Paul
Daniels, commented: “British Sausage Week is a national institution and an event
I am proud to be involved in. Like
with a good magic illusion, sausages come in some many varieties and I look
forward to finding out what makes a really special
sausage.”
Organised
by The British Sausage Appreciation Society, British Sausage Week celebrates the
taste, quality and diversity of the sausage, of which there are some 400
individually named varieties in Britain alone.
To
celebrate British Sausage Week, independent butchers across the country will
also be running events and creating mouth-watering bangers for customers to
sample. There are also likely to be unmissable offers on sausages from
supermarkets, whilst pubs and restaurants will be joining in the festivities by
offering special sausage meals on their menu. For those of you that prefer to
spend the week at home, the British Sausage Appreciation Society have rustled up
some exclusive recipes, showcasing the best of the regions sausage dishes, for
you to try out! Visit

week.
